Seeing missing insulation, thermal bridges and water where they are, not where they should be.
Seeing missing insulation, thermal bridges and water where they are, not where they should be.
A thermal camera shows surface temperature. In a house with a temperature difference across the envelope that means it shows you, directly, where insulation is missing, where it has settled or been disturbed, where a thermal bridge is carrying heat out through the structure, and frequently where water has been.
Two conditions make the difference between a useful scan and a pretty picture. You need a real temperature difference across the assembly — which in practice means winter, or a summer day with the air conditioning running hard. And it is far more revealing with the blower door running, because depressurising the house pulls cold air through every gap and lights the leakage paths up on camera.
We do not sell thermography as a standalone novelty. It is used as part of an evaluation or a diagnosis, where the image answers a question that the model raised. An attic that models as R-40 and images as a patchwork is a finding; an attic that images beautifully is a reason to go and look somewhere else.
Annotated thermal images tied to the findings, in the report.
Anyone with cold rooms, ice damming, suspected missing insulation or a damp patch nobody can explain.
