No provincial retrofit programme — but more than twenty-five municipal ones, and the best industrial funding in Canada.

Alberta has no provincial residential retrofit programme, which makes it look thin at first glance and is misleading. What Alberta has instead is municipal financing on a scale nowhere else matches, and the best-funded industrial energy programme in the country.

The Clean Energy Improvement Program runs in more than twenty-five municipalities — Airdrie, Banff, Calgary, Edmonton, Grande Prairie, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, Okotoks, Spruce Grove, St. Albert, Strathcona County, Wetaskiwin and many more. It lends up to 100% of project cost on terms up to twenty-five years, repaid through the property tax bill so it stays with the house rather than with you. Nearly every participating municipality requires a pre-project and a post-project EnerGuide evaluation.

There is no single CEIP status, and this is the thing to be careful about. Each municipality runs its own intake and budget. Calgary reopened on 22 September 2026. Edmonton is open but near capacity and waitlists after 150 submissions. Alberta Municipalities does not publish a live per-city status, so anyone telling you CEIP is simply "open" has not checked your city.

Medicine Hat is the standout for 2026: HAT Smart pays up to $5,000 per home and has made both EnerGuide evaluations mandatory for the first time, with only the measures listed in your Renovation Upgrade Report eligible.

On the industrial side, SEMI pays up to $50,000 towards an energy assessment or audit at a single facility — up to half the cost, and up to all of it for Indigenous-led and not-for-profit applicants. Our Alberta office is on Manila Road SE in Calgary.
